California Pizza Kitchen

The White Pizza
Eater rating: 3.8 / 5  3.775
Tonight we ate two delectable pizzas from the California Pizza Kitchen. The White Pizza consisted of mozzarella, ricotta, fontina, parmesian, and pecorino romano cheeses with fresh sauteed spinach, garlic, and applewood smoked bacon. Our second pizza was the Jamaican Jerk pizza. It was topped with jerk spiced chicken, spicy sweet caribbean sauce, mozzarella, applewood smoked bacon, onions, scallions, and roasted red and yellow peppers.

T: How do you like the California Pizza Kitchen?
A: I definately dig it. They really do make a good pizza. It’s not always what i’m looking for if i want a traditional pizza, but it’s always tasty.
T: Yeah, they don’t serve a whole lot of traditional pizza. I dig it. Honestly, it never hits me as being spectacular, but I always enjoy it, nonetheless.
A: I agree. There is just something so comforting and delicious about traditional pizza that is just lacking in CPK. that’s not to say i think it’s bad (i would definately rather spend money on this than on pf changs).
T: Hmm… I put the two in the same category of good but not great chain food. I would probably rather eat P.F. Changs, but that’s just me. In the case of California Pizza Kitchen I just think it’s a little bland. I don’t know, for gourmet pizza I just hope for something more. I don’t think they can touch the boudin pizza from the Pastime in Baton Rouge (click here for driving directions).
A: You’re definately right about that. that had to be one of the best, unusual pizza’s i’ve ever eaten.. if you are ever in baton rouge, seek out pastime and order the boudin pizza. I guess it’s really just the fact that i like pizza more than half ass chinese/american food. all that cheese and bread. it’s still a yum when it’s just par.
T: Heard. Heheh, I know you’re a pizzaholic. You’d eat it all the time if it were healthy.
A: No shit. I really would. I’m so cliche american with pizza being my favorite food, but hey.. if the shoe fits, right?
T: Hey, pizza’s good. Nothing wrong with that for a fav. Here’s a question for ya: which do you prefer, pizza or Indian food?
A: hmm… you know, that’s a hard one. I guess indian food, but pizza is pretty specific and indian food is pretty broad.. i don’t know if i like EVERY indian food as much as I like pizza, but all those curries and naans… oh shit yeah! the just rock.
T: So, curry or pizza?
A: damn you! making me decide….. hmmm…… ooooookaaaayyy… i guess i’m still gonna have to run with curry. it’s just so damned good and spicy (i’m addicted to things that burn me) – and you don’t have to worry about clogging an artery every time you eat it.
T: Yeah, dude. I’m right with you. I think it’s pretty hard to beat a good curry. When we go to Indian restaurants, (like the Star of India, woo hoo!!), I’m get into a rare state of food euphoria. It’s like an hour long foodgasm. oooweee I get excited just talking about it! 😀
A: Hehhehehehheheh… seriously, i feel the foodgasm too. I don’t know if it’s all different spices or the heat from the curry (we always get it as hot as they’ll serve it) but…. i said GODDAMN curry rubs me the right way.
T: Yeah, the heat from the curry definately has something to do with it. Also, the environment of those restaurants is usually awesome. I just love the service, it usually feels very special. The Indian beers also add to the whole experience. They go so well with the Indian food that’s it’s just plain silly. Golden Eagle comes to mind as a great and unique Indian beer. There are plenty of other good ones, too.
A: I think i had one last time called Maharaja that went really well with the meal too. damn it. why does just talking about indian food get me hungry (and lets note that i am Quite full right now from dinner)
T: Ok, ok, ok. That reminds me. This post is about California Pizza Kitchen. Well… I have to give the pizza a 3.75/5. Eh. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but I need more from a gourmet pizza shop. What do you think?
A: I’m going to have to agree with you tonight. Before you even mentioned your rating I had a 3.8 set in my mind. It was good, it just wasn’t tops, you know?
T: Right on. You know what?
A: What?
T: I want some naan with spicy chutney! 🙂
A: 😀 me F***ing too! D A M N I T!!!
T: Ok, woman. Get into the kitchen right now!
A: heheh i hope you’ll be ready for the naan in the middle of the night seeing as how it takes over three hours before the dough is ready to bake!
T: unacceptable. *slap*
A: *whimps and cries miserably* okay you meanie, girlfriend abuse gets you no where!
T: It’s been working up to this point 😉
A: heheheh yeah 😉 right! (like you would ever abuse me!)
T: You never know, I could be one of those guys that beats his woman when she makes crappy food. You’re just lucky you’re a good cook 😉
A: *heavy sigh* thanks goodness! silly.
T: Ok, on that note… BTW, for the record, domestic abuse is not cool and we do not support it in any way whatsoever.
A: absolutely not! this food blog would not exist if domestic violence did! (i’d be out… kind like we’re about to be)
T: In 3… 2… closing, roll to ending-

Kwaherini mabibi na mabwana.

You guys should try the thai chicken pizza (request for it to be made with the honey wheat crust).

  2. Us says:

Sounds good. We live like, a block from a CPK so it’s always a fall back plan.

  3. Ted says:

    Forget CPK.

Try Bronx pizza in Hillcrest. It’s as close to NY as SD is gonna get!

I live the pesto and garlic and sausage.

Ted: trust me, i would love to forget CPK, definately not a favorite. (but it is only a block from where we live, thus we go there every now and then.) Bronx pizza, you say??? i’ve been dying for some good ny pizza. just one more restaurant on our growing list of places to visit. (fortunately i’m a fool for pizza and this one will probably be high in priority)

holy crap! What exactly goes on a boudin pizza, besides boudin? which i adore? i am in san antonio, so not that far from baton rouge, but i’ll probably scrape up funds to buy some boudin and throw it on a pizza much more quickly than i’d be able to scrape up funds to drive to baton rouge.

theresa: i think the boudin pizza had a variety of bell peppers (red, yellow, and green) and onions, and… hmmmm.. i just don’t know what else! we’ll have to check with our secret (or not so secret) sources in baton rouge and have them check it out. You can’t even get boudin where we live now (san diego)! Definately a down fall of the city.

You are right about Pastime’s Boudin Pizza. I brought a large to the LSU vs ULL tailgate last night and it was gone in 3 minutes (minus the 2 slices I ate while walking) Everyone that trys it gives it thumbs up! Nice web site
