a Santana's California Burrito Innards

There are several Santana’s located around the San Diego area, we chose to visit the one closest to our home in Point Loma for lunch. Apparently Santana’s is the “home of the famous california burrito” and we both tried it on for size. California burritos are packed with carne asada, french fries, cheese, and, while some place add sour cream, at Santana’s they add fresh tomatoes. If what you’re looking for is a quicky fast food cali burrito, visit Santana’s, if you really want a good one, go somewhere else.

Fear the Cali BurritoA: So this was my first experience with the infamous california burrito…sadly
T: i didn’t think it was so bad. Maybe you just don’t like California burritos. As a person who eats them at least once a week,… wow. At least once a week. Listen to me. I don’t think I’ve ever said that out loud. I think I might have a problem.
A: you know the first step to recovery is admitting there’s a problem. so, you’re well on your way, right?
T: yeah, but I’d like to hit that low point where I wake up in the hospital and can’t remember anything… until they tell me the stories of how I started stealing from my family to buy california burritos. Until I hit that low point, I’m going to go ahead and stay addicted.
A: wow. wow. i’m speechless…i think most likely you’re going to have a heart attack and end up in the hospital and have to turn your life around that way. Do we need to do an intervention???
T: no I could quit at any point. I just don’t want to.
A: harh…that’s what they all say. i’m not buying it. i’m going to have to meet you for lunch everyday and make sure your not eating these things any more!
T: shut up! I hate you! why are you always trying to control my life! You’re mom smells bad! Actually your mom smells fine. But don’t you mess with my california burritos, woman.
A: okay, okay… i’ll let you lead your life how you want to, but expect the “i told you so” when you end up in the hospital at age thirty with a clogged artery. God i hope that doesn’t happen.
T: yeah, in all seriousness… california burritos are no laughing matter. What you just witnessed was a dramatization. But it could happen to you if you don’t make the right choices today. Please, refrain from eating more than 2 california burritos a week.
A: 2 a week?!? if they all taste like Santana’s cali burritos, i wouldn’t be caught eating two a year. I really thought that their “carne asada” tasted worse than Taco Bell’s. seriously. it was bad. The whole thing was luke warm, the cheese didn’t even get a slight melt on…
T: my cheese was melted.
A: mine wasn’t. i could pick out singular pieces of finely shredded cheese. The fries weren’t bad, but i would have prefered eating them dipped in something rather than in the burrito. I’m definately open to attempting another California Burrito, but it has to be made with someone who cares about the product.
T: like the lovely ladies at Karina’s, in Leucadia. I’ll have to take you there the next time we eat “donkey killers.”
A: huh? donkey killers? uh… i’m not really following you, homes.
T: the ancient ones used to make california burritos that were so large they were known to choke donkeys. Hey, don’t shoot the messenger.
A: hmm… are you delirious? What can i do to snap you out of Tyler-land and back to reality?
T: I don’t know. I’m gaining like 2 pounds a week. Literally. And the california burritos are getting easier and easier to take down. I don’t know if there’s any going back.
A: it’s just a good thing you were under-weight when we moved out here. now you’re just catching up. hopefully it won’t be irreversable, but maybe you should limit yourself to two cali burritos a month, rather than a week.
T: That sounds reasonable. But I work next door to a badass taco shop. Reasonable now and reasonable right before lunch time are two completely different things.
A: i feel ya. so, how would you rate Santana’s based on their California Burrito?
T: Santanas seemed like a fast food joint. Santanas is a fast food joint. now, it was way the hell better than burger king (or taco bell), but I wasn’t too impressed. The burrito was good only because I’m silly about california burritos. Let’s put it this way… I don’t want to know what was going on in that kitchen.
A: Me either! And i happen to disagree with part of your comment. I really would compare this burrito to what taco bell would serve if it served California burri..
T: IF they served california burritos. But they don’t. and I disagree anyway. Plus taco bell would have to start making french fries. not gonna happen. And if they did make french fries they would suck ass.
A: i’ll agree to that much. Lets just leave it at me being extremely underwhelmed by my first encounter with a california burrito, and i’m blaming it on Santana’s. I give Santana’s a 2.3/5. It was edible… but just BARELY. I certainly wouldn’t waste my time or caloric intake going back.
T: I give the burrito a 3.7/5. It gets some points for being a california burrito, but it loses points for being very close to, or, for actually being, fast food. So far the reigning cali burrito champion is Karina’s! Woo hoo, go Karina’s! I have every intention of blogging about that burrito one of these lunches. Hopefully you will be able to come have lunch with me sometime.
A: absolutely, any thursday or friday, and it’s on! I’m a little confused about one thing though. Did you just rate the burrito or Santanas?
T: the burrito gets a 3.7/5. Santana’s gets a 2.9/5. It seemed kinda nasty.
A: totally. Maybe we should mention the kick-ass place we went to for dinner.
T: Was Jimmy Wong’s Golden Dragon, now they call it “The Asian Bistro.” On mondays they have absurdly cheap prices. We ate 2 excellent entrees, and I had a large Kirin, for under $20. We were floored because the meal was so good we hardly talked the entire time. And then we got the bill and it was… under $20! Amazing. We’ll be going back there, no doubt.

Peace!

Tyler ordered a hotdog plate, complete with sauerkraut, coleslaw, and a side of fries. I ordered a corned beef reuben, with a side of pasta salad. Milton’s offers huge portions at huge prices (considering the type of food they serve) so be ready to eat big, and pay big.

Cherry phosphate and egg cream sodaT: whatup.
A: a huge-ass pile o’ corned beef man. that’s whudup.
T: that is certainly a massive pile of corned beef. It’s piled higher than my mouth can open. was it hard to eat?
A: not really. i just had to open the sandwich up a little and distribute the meat more evenly over the bread, then it wasn’t so bad. quite good really.
T: that’s good to hear. I get a bit distressed when food is served that is nearly impossible to eat. Sometimes sandwiches get that way. Not often, but there are times. And it’s frustrating.
A: i feel ya, sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands and just remove some of the stuff.
T: i usually try to eat the overstuffed sandwich as it comes and then end up losing the majority of its contents about half way through the sandwich. By the end it is quite ugly. There are piles of napkins on the floor around me, food everywhere. Children are crying.
A: sweet jesus! i’m glad i don’t eat more overstuffed sandwiches with you. i don’t need babies crying to make my meal more enjoyable, that’s for sure.
T: no. Crying children do not add to a meal. I don’t know why there are smoking sections in restaurants and not children sections. I think we should combine the two. Put the crying kids and babies with the smokers.
A: uh, t? we live in california. there are no smoking section in restaurants anymore…. or on beaches… or in senior living communites…but back to the point, it is a fantastic idea to turn all those old smoking sections into childrens sections. then they would ask you “children, or non”, when you first meet the host. you’d have the option.
T: yes this is actually sounding like a pretty good idea. And eventually maybe we could get children banned from restaurants altogether.
A: ah… those will be the days we should totally start a movement.
T: somewhere, in a dark bedroom or living room, there is someone reading this. And they are becoming inspired. And they are planning a movement. personally i’m a little busy right now. but somebody’s on top of it.
A: hmmm maybe your mom can quit her job and take this up as her charity cause. Laura??? how’s that sound?
T: she does hate sitting next to kids in restaurants, and she does always seems to end up next to them. She might be the right person. Ok. Now that we’ve started a movement, let’s talk about what we ate.
A: well, i’m a huge fan of deli sandwiches, so i was able to twist your arm and get you to Milton’s in Del Mar for what i hoped would be a damn good sammie. I ordered a corned beef reuben with a side of pasta salad. It was good. I would have preferred more sauerkaut and less meat, but it was good none the less.

Expensive Hot DogT: My hotdog was pretty good. Not out of this world or anything. This sounds messed up, but… the hotdog meat tasted a little too much like meat, and not enough like a hotdog. I’m strangely attracted to the processed badness that is a typical hotdog.
A: hehehe i’ve never heard of such a thing! meat tasting too much like meat??? so you like the weird mystery meatness of normal hotdogs?
T: yes I do. I will admit it. hell, i’m proud of it. that’s right. it’s pretty much all about the toppings anyway. the weiner and bun are the chips and the toppings are the salsa. One is a vehicle for the other. That’s how I do hot dogs.
A: i feel ya, but the actual dog tends to give off it’s own unique flavor for the toppings. i went through a phase a year or two ago, where i tried nearly all the fat-free and low-fat hotdogs on the market searching for a not-so-unhealthy alternative that would give me the satisfaction of eating a dog, guilt-free. unfortunately, nearly all of those scary dogs, didn’t allow the toppings to shine. now i eat about one hot dog a year, and let it be a real, full fat mystery meat hotdog. (if anyone’s wondering, healthy choice makes the best low-fat dog in my opinion, and trust me. i’ve tried them all.)
T: to return to the chips and salsa analogy, eating a low-fat weiner is like eating some damn salt-free chips or something. Not worth it. I would rather eat the real thing then jog a mile while thinking about how good it was than eat the fake thing and sit on my butt thinking about how crappy it was. Although I don’t really like jogging. You get the idea. I don’t know what that idea is, but you get some idea. Mandy, say something please. I can’t stop being absurd.
A: uh… what’s new??? you know what’s absurd?
T: mmm… uhh… no.
A: it’s absurd that it’s been a year since hurricane katrina hit the gulf coast. that’s absurd.
T: it’s funny, it seems like a really long time ago to me. So much has happened since then. Such as us moving to California, getting jobs, getting our own place. Katrina feels somewhat distant to me.
A: really? not at all for me. it seems like only yesterday we were eating eggs katrina, while the rain came down and we wondered how much it would affect us. it wasn’t until the next day we would find out that our population was about to double. it seems recent to me.
T: that was a crazy time, and it’s still crazy for those folk in Louisana and Mississippi. All we have to worry about out here is earthquakes, fires, tsunamis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, mudslides… that kind of stuff.
A: true dat. we definately don’t have the yearly scares here that we had in louisiana. living where we do i guess i’m most afraid of Arnold. the other may happen, but he is here and now.
T: yes, he’s a threat. I had a dream like a month ago that I woke up, and I was in my bed. I thought I was awake but I obviously wasn’t. And I looked over and Arnold Schwarzenegger was staring at me through the window. God what a nightmare.
A: freeeeaaaak-eeee.
T: alright, back to our meal at Milton’s. I thought Milton’s was overpriced for what it offered. It’s easy for them to get away with it where they’re located (Del Mar aka Hell Mar). I don’t have $7.50 for a mediocre hotdog, though. I give them a 3.6/5. The food was pretty good, but they need to get over themselves.
A: i absolutely have to agree. my reuben was 13 bucks, and all it came with was a soggy pickle and some bland pasta salad. I give Milton’s a 3.5/5. The sandwich was good, but not thirteen dollars good. if you’re rich and can afford thirteen bucks for a deli sandwich, go for it, if not, you’re better off to make one for yourself.
T: amen my sister.

Kwaherini mabibi na mabwana.

For breakfast we made our way over to Hillcrest, a cute inland neighborhood of San Diego, to eat at the Hash House a Go Go. Despite the relatively long wait, we were thrilled to enjoy the innovative breakfast cuisine they offered. Tyler ordered the meatloaf hash with roasted red peppers, fresh spinach, and smoked mozzarella. I ordered the corned beef hash with red onions and swiss cheese. Both of our breakfasts were served with two eggs, a slice of watermelon and a biscuit.

Hash House a Go GoT: I hope those hickups don’t stick around too long.
A: tell me about it! this is like the fourth time today i’ve gotten the damn hiccups! hopefully it won’t affect my blog-a-bility.
T: i think you’ll be ok. if we were making a podcast it might be a different story… but.. unless your hiccup causes you to delete something accidentally we should be ok.
A: true dat. we’ll leave podcasting food blogs up to our friends at MIA (they do it better than we could any way:-) ) so, i’ve been wanting to go to Hash House a Go Go for a while but i had been getting negative vibes from you for a while.
T: negative vibes? ok, ok… I haven’t had the best breakfast meals in San Diego up to this point. Most of them have been a bit bland and… crappy. Would you not agree?
A: unfortunately i do have to agree on that. most of the breakfast joints in OB aren’t worth the amount you have to spend to eat the bland crappy food at them. but that doesn’t rule out the rest of the city. I have high hopes for finding other gems like the Hash House.
T: yeah, i agree with that. So, 2 of our favorite restaurants in San Diego are in Hillcrest…
A: Hillcrest is definately known for its food.
T: I did not know that. I guess I didn’t really know anything about Hillcrest now that I think about it. For all I knew the Bronx Pizza was the only good restaurant there. I had never been on that part of 5th before. That was a pretty cool little section of town.
A: absolutely. A guy i work with always says that Hillcrest is his favorite section of town for food, so a few weeks ago i went for a little drive on one of my days off and just wandered around for a while and let’s just say my list of “Go to’s” grew exponentially. there are so many places we have to try.
T: I’m excited. I’m ready to go back to Hillcrest. So, Hash House a Go Go was definately a unique dining experience. I didn’t know what to expect, but it definately wasn’t the standard diner that I thought it might be.

Corned Beef Hash from Hash House a Go GoA: seriously. Hash House’s slogan is “Twisted Farm Food” and that is totally what they have. Although we opted for just getting two different enormous hashes, they have a wide variety of stuff on the menu. The next breakfast item i want to try is the house smoked salmon scramble with basil pesto, fresh tomatoes, and brie. mmmm. seriously. i have a hard time not reading their menu and getting hungry.
T: I was frustrated when we were ordering because I couldn’t make up my mind! The server kept asking us if we were ready but I was trying to decide between like 9 entrees. It was tough to narrow it down to the meatloaf hash. I know what you’re saying though. The menu’s pretty exciting.
A: especially for an american breakfast menu… those tend to be pretty boring. I really do think i could eat there for a few weeks in a row and not get the same thing twice but be happy as a clam every day.
T: yeah, I don’t doubt it. You might want to make breakfast your main meal of the day if you do that though, because those servings are insane.
A: seriously. I don’t know if i’ve ever been served more food at one time in a restaurant ever. I’m not saying that this is an awesome thing. I definately think the portions are out of control, but it just fits with the restaurant. My main complaint with the Hash House is that I don’t really like re-heated cubed hash browns because the potatoes get all funky. it’s like french fries. they just don’t work the next day. So we did end up throwing away the majority of our leftovers.
T: I like to think of it as feeding the wildlife at the landfill.
A: or those airline employees that were told to dumpster dive for things they want in order to save money.
T: yes, that’s true. We might have helped out some of Northwest Airline’s ex-employees. It feels good to help out in the world. Especially when all you have to do is throw away food.
A: hehehehhe wow. we are so wrong! actually, those silly people at northwest are the wrong ones for ever giving out that advice!
T: not that there’s anything wrong with dumpster diving. It helps save global resources. I wonder if there are any food blogs about people who dumpster dive… that would be truly interesting.
A: interesting… and scary. I know, i know. it’s natural and it’s beautiful, but my god. I can’t imagine eating trash… with other people’s germs all over it. i guess i’m mildly germaphobic.
T: I wouldn’t describe a pepperoni pizza with jalapenos and onions as trash. i don’t care if it’s under 3 feet of garbage in a dumpster with a dead cat on top.
A: hehehhe… suuuureee… i totally believe that. You wouldn’t even reach into a completely empty, freshly lined trash can to pull out something that accidentally got thrown away!
T: ehh, that was more laziness than anything else. I didn’t need it too bad.
A: heheheh okay. enough with the dumpster diving… is it gross that we are talking about food and dumpster diving in the same post?

Amanda getting excitedT: well, it’s too late to go back now. the damage has been done. we’ve mentioned dead cats and trash. And food. It’s ok. On that note, I give the Hash House a Go Go a rating of 4.65/5. It was fun. It was tasty. The woman sitting at the table next to us had the largest flapjack ever. I definately want to go back and try out more of their menu!
A: i totally agree with you on this one T! I give the Hash House a 4.34/5. It was rockin’ and the menu left me wanting to try more stuff. I’m a huge fan of corned beef, but i think there are other items that that could do better. The corned beef was good but it wasn’t the best i’ve ever had. I particularly like the substantial biscuit that was served with the meal. It came with a huge twig of rosemary stuck in the middle. The best part was that the rosemary actually gave a wonderful flavor to the inside of the biscuit. Needless to say, we will definately be going back to this establishment.
T: yes we will. next time we will know in advance that there might be a bit of a wait to get in. Like 30 minutes. So we will not go on completely empty stomaches.
A: but the wait certainly won’t keep us from returning.
T: no way. there’s a wait for a good reason. people know what they like, and Hash House a go go is pretty damn likable.

Spaghetti with Italian Sausage

Tonight’s post is a little different. I’m in Vegas, and Amanda is in San Diego . However, the blog must go on! Using space-age technology we have managed to have a conversation about what I ate today (since I’m the one with the camera). I had spaghetti and Italian sausage at a restaurant called Maggiano’s.

T: so did you look at the picture I posted?
A: i did indeed! that italian sausage looks quite yummy. i’m envious, i’ll be eating a leftover roasted chicken salad for dinner. Where did you get this from?
T: Got it from a place called Maggiano’s. It’s an italian restaurant at the Fashion Show Mall across from the Wynn hotel.
A: what did you think of it?
T: the sausage was actually awesome. In fact, it was all pretty good. The sausage was my favorite part, though. It had a vibrant, fresh flavor. Quite good. So, what kind of salad will your roasted chicken salad be?
A: a sinach and mixed baby field greens salad with whatever veggies are in the house. nothing too exciting. i doubt i will even make a vinegarette for it. Do you think the sausage was made fresh at the restaurant?
T: It could have been. Tasted quite good, but you never know. Cisco does some amazing things.
A: true dat! cisco definately allows restaurants to appear as though they are the shit with high quality preprepared foods that people can’t tell are come from them! was the sauce good? it looks good.
T: Yes it was good. It tasted fresh (thanks, Cisco! ), and was not at all too heavy. I gave this meal a 4.5/5. It was a pleasant surprise, because going into the meal I had low expectations. I’m generally wary of restaurants attached to malls.
A: that feeling of weariness is definately a safe feeling. most things attached to malls are unsatisfying. have you seen any good pastries or anything inside the hotels??
T: no, I haven’t. I haven’t been to those parts of the hotels I guess. The hotels are so freaking big it’s easy to miss parts.
A: yup, to find the really great pastry chefs you might have to look in some of the really nice restaurants. a quick look at the dessert menu might be a telling sign. vegas has some extraordinary restaurants (if you have the 200 bucks a head to eat there)!
T: Yeah, I’m hoping to find some good pastries to bring you tomorrow morning. I’m sure i’ll find something
A: if not, i think i might be able to forgive you! it will just give us a reason to go to that recommended dessert place in la jolla!
T: which place is that?
A: i can’t remember the name but it is around the maseratti dealership and the ipod-vending Vons.
T: Ah, yes. We shall definately go there. … So, I gotta say, it’s kinda lame chatting over ICQ in completely different cities! Much rather be sitting in the same room.
A: 100% ditto on that one. It’s totally lame that i had to stay home and work while you guys got to go to vegas for the weekend. Bummer man.
T: yeah total bummer.
A: oh well, you’ll be back tomorrow night! that’s exciting! then we can get back to our usually bloggety blog blog blogging!
T: Yes indeed! What will we eat for supper tomorrow night?
A: i don’t think you will be getting back in time for supper! i don’t think you are going to leave there until like five or something. so you had better plan on taking a pic of something in LV and posting that. It won’t be until monday when we get back to both eating what we’re blogging.
T: We’re leaving at 1:30ish tomorrow. We’ll be back in time for supper. If we’re late we’ll give you a call.
A: awesome!!! WOO HOO!!! i wasn’t planning on getting to see you guys at all tomorrow! how exciting! (that was a lot of exclamations) now i have a dinner to think about.
T: woo hoo! Speaking of “woo hoo!” we’re eating Thai tonight!
A: you lucky duck! first italian, then thai. i had a sandwich at three am last night, and will be fixing my salad here soon. woo…hoo? i am quite excited for you though. eat something spicy for me, okay?
T: yes I will request MAX spice.
A: as it should be homes, as it should be.
T: ok, well, the strippers just showed up so I guess we should say goodbye.
A: tell them i said they aren’t allowed to give you any STDs, cool??
T: Ok, I asked them, they said they were clean. No worries.
A: Alright then, peace out!
T: Adios!

Crispy Spring RollsA: well… my first thought after eating tonight’s meal, is that we have become quite spoiled as far as curry expectations are concerned.
T: That’s true. We would have been thrilled with tonight’s meal a couple of months ago. But tonight we were disappointed.
A: We were indeed…like your mom said, you really couldn’t differentiate between which was panang and which was just the red curry. they were damn near the exact same. the only thing that i really liked about tonight’s meal was its spice level! they definately got the “very spicy” part of our order right!
T: even I thought it was a touch too spicy. It would have been good with some lassi, but as it is… let’s just say tomorrow morning will be a painful reminder of all that pepper.
A: heheheh i have to admit, that tomorrow’s painful reminder does nothing to diminish my enjoyment tonight. i thought the spice level was right on. it was the definately the best aspect of the meal.
T: yes, you are a bit insane. I used to be crazy like that, but nowadays, in my old age, i’ve softened up a bit. My digestive track can’t handle pepper like it used to.
A: hehehhe old age huh??? i’m gonna remind you of that next time you call yourself young (when calling me old). yer but a ripe old 24, still huh? My digestive track hasn’t really changed as far as the amount of spice it can handle…yet.
T: You’re lucky. I hope your bowels stay strong. About this thai restaurant, I think my favorite part of it is its name. Every time I read it I think it says “Sawdaddy’s.” Heheh, the idea of a thai place called Sawdaddy’s cracks me up.
A: heheheh no doubt.. the sad thing is, i can never actually remember what the real name is, and only remember sawdaddy’s (if i even remember that!) I must admit that i was WAY disappointed with the spring rolls being fried. I was looking for something light and refreshing, not something deep fried and reminiscent of an egg roll. but… what can you do?… but eat it and be happy.
T: eat, be happy, and *bitch*!
A: WOOO HOOO… i do love a good bitch-fest every once in a while.
T: yeah, I guess that’s what this post is all about. Even Mom was bitching. She said it was so spicy that she had to get up and eat bread in the middle of the meal. She was upset that the two curries were essentially identical, and she added that the rice was such a pile of mush that they should consider using Success Rice. She rated the meal a 3/5.
A: that is SOOO low for your mom… if it is decent she normally gives most things a fairly high rating, but not here. Heheheh, i think she even said that she could make better rice, and she sucks at making rice. I give this meal a 3.2/5. It was just alright. the spicy level was nice, considering we didn’t think they were going to change the spiciness from how they normally serve it. The veggies were crisp, for the most part. but there really was nothing above par from this meal. San Diego offers too many Thai options to settle for something as half ass as this.
T: agreed. It was just alright. If we lived within walking distance of that place, it might be another story, but as it stands I’d be content to never go there again. Oh my, the thought of living in that neighborhood is frightening. Please tell me we will never live there, Amanda!
A: heheheh don’t worry tyler… WE WILL NEVER LIVE IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD. it just has no flavor and everything looks and seems like everything else.
T: Yes, even the street names are terrible… stuff like “Executive Way” “Corporate Drive” or the worst, “Cubicle Street”
A: lol! i’m pretty sure i haven’t seen “cubicle st.” but i wouldn’t doubt that it exists! just think t, if we lived in that neighborhood we could walk to “wired: cafe bistro” everyday.
T: oh no you didn’t! Hahaha, we have this running joke about how I hate cafes and bistros, so Wired: Cafe Bistro is the most terrible eatery ever. Both a cafe and a bistro. I don’t really hate cafes or bistros, but in my experience places that call themselves either of those two things tend to have weak food offerings. I’m always skeptical about ordering food from them.
A: but you can’t judge a restaurant by their poor name choice…. or can you? Anyway, I am *so* excited about what we’re doing for lunch tomorrow afternoon!
T: If I were in town that I was unfamiliar with, and presented with the choice of eating in a cafe or eating in a restaurant, I would choose the restaurant. I think 9 times out of 10 that would give me the better culinary experience… now, if I wanted *coffee*…
A: i definately agree on that, cafe=coffee not cafe=food. silly americans.
T: there is much in the way of sillyness. So, what were you saying about our lunch tomorrow?
A: we will be visiting the much awaited Extraodinary Desserts (again in celebration of having a job) I said we would visit this establishment as my treat whenever i became gainfully employed again… hence our visit.
T: Now, if you can judge a restaurant by its name, Extraordinary Desserts should be the bomb, yo!
A: no doubt, homes! i simply cannot wait!
A: they offer humbolt fog in their cheese selection too! yum….
T: Sweet! We’ve had humbolt fog before! I remember it being quite extraordinary.
A: oh yeah.. tomorrow is destined to be a good day.
T: Um, for sure. So, now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for… drumroll please
A: and the rating is…..
T: I have to give our Thai experience tonight a 3.34/5. We’ll have to do better next time.
A: until then…

Kwaherini mabibi na mabwana!

MMM MMM MMM
T: I know, go figure. I agree. MMm mmm mmm. I love that stuff. Damn I love that stuff.
A: No joke. I really do think i could eat indian food nearly every single day and be quite happy. perhaps we should move to india??
T: Right, well, ummm. So, about that… uhh.. not too sure.
A: i don’t see why not? you could have a fine job.. you are a computer guy.. all the computer jobs are in india! it would be me who would never be able to get a job.
T: You could always open up an american food joint, eh?
A: heheheh I suppose i could.. but why in the world would i want to do that? just think of all those curries we would be eating. Lunch today was nice, although if it had just been the two of us eating I would have liked the curries to be as spicy as they would make them.. Today we got them made at an 8 level (they go 1-10). But it was still damned good. The chicken tikka masala was creamy, yet spicy, and the jalfrazie was perfectly spiced.
T: Yeah, it was terrific. What I’m so happy about is how great the menu looks, but how little we’ve tried of it. It will be months before we’ve tried everything on the menu!
A: Definately! They have such an extensive menu. It’s fantastic. This was our first time trying the chile naan – it was delightful – their perfectly cooked naan with lots of green chiles on top. Definately spicy.
T: Oh yes, very spicy. Very very spicy and very very delicious. Super happy Deluxe happy!
A: to the max, yo.

Chicken MasalaT: I’m going to give our meal today a 4.75/5. It was just great. I can’t say much bad about it. I guess it would have been cool if the chutney wasn’t a tiny bit frozen, but really that didn’t affect it. It was still killer. I’m just reaching for something to complain about, here.
A: I know what you mean. I give this meal a 4.57843/5…. what? why did i give it so many digits you ask??? because i feel like doing something arbitrary. There really isn’t anything negative about the meal we ate, I just wish we could eat it again tomorrow.
T: Wow, that many decimal points might actually cause our rating system to go haywire! just kidding, we’re using top-of-the-line space age blogging software. Shouldn’t be a problem. Although, doesn’t the term “space age” sound so 1980’s? I don’t think we’re in the space age anymore.
A: its the technological age now baby! woo hoo.. go technology.
T: Yeah, it’s the age of Web 2.0, and it’s just getting cranking! Fun stuff… although, I’m a bit afraid of MySpace. Those 14 year olds are doing some freaky crap!
A: no joke.. i think myspace should be banned. it really is WRONG what some of those kids are doing. Do i sound old? jeeze.. i’m only 25. that doesn’t seem that old to me! but….
T: Oh my god, I know you really don’t believe that it should be banned! Please say it ain’t so. I mean, sure, it’s strange to see 14 year olds talking about how much they want to have sex with each other, but… let’s see, what grade was I in… hell, by the time I was 14 my friends and I were some sick bastards too- the difference is we didn’t post it for the whole world to see!
A: true dat. i guess i don’t really think it should be banned but, jeeze. these kids really need to think about what they’re doing before the put it out there for the world to see.
T: Agreed. It’s funny, though. Some day these kids’ kids will be able to read the stupid crap their parents were talking about when they were young. (with the help of the WayBackMachine)
A: I know man… i’m sure glad we don’t say anything we would regret… uh… yeah…. You notice we got off the topic of food tonight?? whoops. oh well, i imagine most people don’t actually read the whole blog anyway…
T: Yeah, I’d be interested to know how many people read the posts. I often find myself skimming sites, I’m sure plenty of others to the same. It takes some fairly interesting text for me to read everything.
A: I know. I try to give every blog i go to a chance, but if it doesn’t really capture me i will just hit the highlights (and i don’t really blame others for doing the same). I want to ask anyone who happens to still be reading this, if you know of any GOOD authentic lebanese food in San Diego? We just moved out here in January and miss it a lot. For baton rouge’s size, it has an enormous amount of greek and lebanese places. Here you see some greek places, but it’s just not the same as lebanese you know?
T: Yeah, please tell us where we can find it. Maybe Beth from Zen Foodism knows. She’s been living here much longer than we have.
A: no doubt, she’s a SD native! anyway, we’re begging… okay, maybe not begging, but we are in dire need of some good fried cheese! you know the kind i’m talking about? kind of spongy, pan fried with garlic, herbs, and spices. truly one of the best flavors in the world.
T: Damn you amanda, try to be less descriptive when you describe lebanese fried cheese! I can’t take it!
A: heheheh i know. we just need to find a place around here that makes it. *sigh* one day…
T: Did somebody say chocolate?
