Falafel sandwich
Falafel sandwich w/ a salad

The Village Kabob is located in Ocean Beach on the corner of Newport and Cable. They offer the typical Greek fare: falafel, moussaka, gyros, kabobs, and sandwiches. While we found the falafels to be good, the majority of the food we’ve eaten there has been under-seasoned. If you want greek and live in ob this place is pretty much the only option. If you want greek and live anywhere else in the community we would suggest trying a different restaurant.

A: so, this was our second time eating at the village kabob. the first time, over a year ago, we didn’t really like it, but this time it was pretty tasty. i think it’s definitely hit or miss with this place.
T: I think they might have a tendency to under-salt things. That was my main complaint both times.
A: i agree. the first time we ate there i remember thinking it was way under-seasoned. this time, though, i thought my falafels were really tasty. some of the better falafels i’ve had actually. great flavor, nice texture. the accompanying salad was a whole other story. the dressing tasted like they had just poured straight vinegar on to it! i love vinegar and all but enough is enough!

T: My gyros sandwich was pretty tasty… a tad under-salted, but tasty anyway. I really liked the bite of falafel sandwich that I had. Overall it was far better than our first experience. I’d give it a 2.8/5 for our first visit, and 3.8/5 for our second visit, for an average of 3.3/5. If you’re wanting greek food and you’re walking around OB, it’s a decent place to go.
A: not to mention the only place to go! if you just want greek food and you’re in san diego, i wouldn’t waste my time with a trip to OB to get it. the falafels were good, but that’s pretty much it. i give the village kabob a 3.0/5. if you want falafels, they’re your man. if you want anything else, try a different venue.
T: Hmph, well I don’t think any trip to OB is really a waste of time :-P
A: agreed… unless of course you are dying for some great greek food.

I’m trying to kick my falafel habit…I haven’t had one for 24 hours but I’ve thought about them…and then I arrive here and now I really want one. I vote the falafel “The Most Perfect Non-meat food, excluding pie and mac n cheese, ever”

So basically we stick to the Olympic Cafe on Texas or the Greek place at Seaport Village, I guess. Got totally creeped out by the weird folks who are moving into OB territory lately.

I tried to give you a holler at the contact address us @ What Were Eating dot com in every combination possible and decided to try you both here.
I have been searching for an amazing recipe for Shepherd’s Pie. I have never had it, or attempted it but have some venison in the freezer I was thinking about using for it. Of course I want the recipe that has cheddar cheese in the mashed potato topping. Can you help me out?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tina

Hi Tina! sorry for the lack of response via email! both t & i are really bad about checking that email account… sometimes over a month goes by before we get around to it. oops! i’ll see what i can do about whipping up a shepherd’s pie recipe within the next week. if i can lay my hands on any ground venison i will even include that in the recipe, but i will for sure do the cheddar cheese in the mashed potato topping for you! gimme one week. :-)
