Amanda's Baby

Okay, okay, maybe I don’t really mean “the same thing” but we have done this meme before! A week or so ago we were tagged by the fabulous Leena to do the “5 things you don’t know about me” meme and as always we were quick to procrastinate and slow to get around to publishing! :-) This time around I thought it would be fun to get Tyler involved since I’m always the one giving away the personal goods.

Note: we wanted to see what our offspring would look like if we had kids… as you can see from the photo above it would not be pretty. As a service to the world and ourselves we are NOT having kids.

5 Things You (Probably) Don’t Know about Tyler:

1. I couldn’t swallow pills until I was a teenager… I just had a mental block man, it wouldn’t go past my tougue…it sucked. the first pill I ever swallowed was a tiny little red Sudafed, and even that took lots of water.

2. My first crush was on Rudy from the Cosby show. when I was 4 years old, and I convinced my parents to name our first dog Rudy in her honor.

3. I once wore a shirt for seven months straight - it was damn ugly. Actually it was purchased for my halloween costume and then I was like - screw it, I’m done dealing w/ wardrobe decisions. now I wear jeans and a white shirt every day. this is the result of 12 years of Catholic school.

4. I went to 12 years of Catholic school. (no girls, brown shoes, you know what i’m talking about.) Thank god that’s over with.

5. I have a cyst on my back named Jerome. nah, it’s not really named Jerome, but it has been there for a few years, and I couldn’t think of anything else to say.

And now…

5 Things You (Probably) Don’t Know about Amanda:

1. for a couple of years in college i didn’t brush my hair and just wore braided pigtails all of the time… which did indeed lead to having a couple of dreaded pieces of hair. i also used to have coca-cola red hair with yellow and orange highlights to look like fire. don’t worry, now my hair is back to the natural burnt-potato chip dark blond brushed state. i actually have to be slightly presentable working as a personal chef/estate manager. working in the back-of-the-house you just have to be clean(ish) with your hair tied back and covered. no style required.

2. to follow up on style, i don’t really pay attention to fashion or what i’m wearing. if it’s comfortable and i think i don’t look like a complete dork in it, i’ll wear it. i’m not too concerned with matching… at least when i’m not at work!(i just read tyler’s 5 things… i wonder if our lack of interest in wardrobes is part of what makes us so right for each other? :-P )

3. i’m an npr junkie! i’m not a fan of most of the music played on the radio although i am a huge fan of music. while i like some of pretty much all genres i’m a particular fan of bluegrass (not country), jam bands, prog-rock, funk, blues, femme rock (the likes of ani and the indigo girls)… and of course i grew up on the alternative music of the early nineties.

4. this year will be my 10 year class reunion from high school - and i fully intend not to go. really, what’s happened in ten years that could have drastically changed the people. at 28 we’re all still pretty much kids, right? :-) now maybe if it was the 20 or 30 year reunion i might be interested. this year i’d like to waste that travel money on a leisurely trip up the california coast (with a high school friend!) ending in arcata, ca to visit another high school friend.

5. i have the (horrible) ability to waste hours while playing games online. i put that all on having an overnight job in the past where i had nothing to do for six and a half hours everyday. i particularly love puzzle games involving words and numbers.

  2. melissa Says:

amanda, do you ever buy dell magazines? I’ve been addicted to those since childhood. I especially love their 4 or 6 times per year math and logic special.

drive up the CA coast. it’s sooooo beeeautiful. monterey and big sur are my and my husband’s favorites.

p.s. tyler have you seen rudy lately? she turned out gorgeous. ;)

  3. White On Rice Couple Says:

You guys are funny and this meme was a great read!
Darn it! We wanted to tag you too, but someone beat us to it!

  4. -B Says:

Ah man, I am so very tempted to follow this one up with 5 more things people don’t know about you two. But I’ll just say that, Tyler, you should’ve mentioned your hair in college and included a picture. I can’t believe I’m going to let you off this easy, but I am. But I do think you should post a fro pic as a thank you :)

Amanda, you gave up on the one chance you’ll probably ever have to grow dreads. Shame on you ::wags finger::

Also, I looked at those genres and thought, “I haven’t given her nearly enough prog rock” :) You will be getting mediafire links soon. Take it easy, guys, and thanks for not having any kids.

-white on rice couple: Funniest name for a food blog EVER!

  5. Kirk Says:

LOL! You guys are too funny…. And I did learn about both of you too!

  6. Amanda Says:

thanks aria! npr junkies unite! i have another thing to admit… i think kai ryssdal has the sexiest male voice. do you listen to market place? dont’ look him up on google… you may be let down. but DO listen to him on market place… swoon ;-)

melissa, i’ve never even heard of dell magazine! sadly, i’m not exactly the biggest consumer… of things other then food! online is free! i’ve been wanting to visit big sur since we moved here two years ago. i can’t wait to do it this summer.

thanks white on rice couple! we are always game for another tag. we didn’t choose to tag anyone but we would LOVE to here five from each of you. (and i completely agree w/ b - you guys do have the best food blog name!)

b, i would like to thank you for not following up with 5 more facts people don’t know about us! ;-) i’m sure they would be the ones we don’t want people to know! i am, on the other hand, f*cking happy to see you commenting! i think it’s your first time. why is it that none of our actual real life friends ever comment? (except bobby and heather! we love you guys!) oh yeah, and i only left out the prog-rock genre because i didn’t think of it when i was typing up this silly meme! there is no lack of prog-rock in our daily music diet, but there’s always room for more…moreMORE. mwahahahah.

thanks kirk! i saw the outing you and alice q. and a bunch of others took and i was so envious! i would love to pick your brain in an asian market. if you guys ever do another random meet up we would love to be a part of it! :-)

  7. leena! Says:

Hallelujah! I thought you would never post it, and really, my life is that much richer having learned these precious facts about you folks.

Amanda, if you like npr, have you ever listened to This
American Life? It runs on Chicago Public Radio, but you can download episodes free online and it rocks pretty hard : thislife.org.

The baby picture scares me. Thank you for not birthing.

  8. Bobby Says:

I’m really glad y’all did not mention your obsession with German B&D midget porn, featuring antique medical instruments and attire

  9. Pannifer's Says:

    Very cool!

    And thanks for the Stumble!

  10. bron Says:

    You crazy kids!
    P.S I still can’t swallow pills *blush*

  11. Heather Says:

Hey - if you drive up the coast, you should stop in my Aunt’s shop in Fort Bragg. It’s Carol Hall’s Hot Pepper Jelly Company on Hwy 1. Also, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are amazing!

  12. amy Says:

Just found your blog and I think the combo pic is hilarious (could this be your future child… if you don’t have one already). One thing I have in common w/ Tyler is that one of my first crushes was on Rudy too! I may be a girl and hetero, but she was my age and I chose her as my 3rd grade “write to your favorite celebrity” assignment. She’s still cute (have you see her, lately, Tyler?)

As for what I have in common with Amanda is that it too is time for my 10 year reunion this year - but from college. I’m still on the fence as to whether to go or not. Only thing that’s scaring me is that the alumni email newsletter that goes to like 20,000 people contained a picture of me from a 1994 frat party where I had all the awesome 90’s looks - torn jeans and that special, sexy “flannel plaid shirt” tied around my waist. I think I’m embarrassed to go.

I’ll be back to see what you guys are up to… fun blog! - amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com
