Coffee-Braised Pot Roast
Mr. Zebra Napkin HolderA: this is what i call typical housewife goods. seriously, what’s more mid-western than pot roast?
T: Yeah, there must be millions of housewives (and househusbands) cooking pot roast tonight.
A: i really don’t doubt that. i mean, even our dear friend katie could be cooking pot roast.
T: That is possible, certainly. Although I’d say the chances of her making pot roast on this particular night are pretty slim.
A: hehehe hmmm.. how about a hot dog? how strong of a chance do you think that has?
T: There is a 20% chance that she is eating a hot dog. Give or take a couple of percentage points.
A: MUCH more likely than her making pot roast i guess. katie, if you’re reading this, post a comment telling us what YOU were eating tonight! (not that she really ever reads this.)
T: Yes. that would be nice to hear what she was eating tonight. Back to our meal… I don’t know that I’d ever had parsnips before tonight. what about you?
A: you know, i really don’t know. i saw them at the produce market this morning and just had to snatch them up.
T: I only really saw them once they were cooked, and then they looked a lot like potatoes to me. What did they look like raw?
A: They look just like white carrots! they have a whole lot more flavor than carrots do, though.
T: Yes they certainly were bursting with their own unique flavor. Quite interesting. How would you describe the flavor? (i’m not good at doing that)
A: hehehhe i was just trying to figure out how to describe them…i guess i would say they have a flavor….um…similar.. to a… turnip. I guess. I little bit of bite.
T: Yeah there is a little bit of a bite, but it is pretty mild compared to a turnip I’d say. Would you agree with that?
A: yup, sounds about right. I guess if we were good food bloggers we would look it up.
T:oh well. Our reader(s) will come to the rescue.
What a coincidence(?), I was eating pork loin when you were eating tenderloin. Somehow we cooked it while mowing the grass, fixing the edger, dealing with our kids and others. Well, we managed to kill it, but I almost lost a tooth eating it. Even Cole passed after a couple of bites.
Keep on cooking and writing!
